About John Francis Mukulu SJ.

John Francis Mukulu SJ is a scholastic in The Society of Jesuits from the Eastern African Province (AOR). He joined the Society of Jesus in 2019 at Arusha Gonzaga Gonza Jesuit Novitiate. He’s currently pursuing a Masters degree in Philosophy at Arrupe Jesuit University (AJU) in Harare, Zimbabwe. Before joining the Society of Jesus, Mukulu was a Lead Software Architect at the College of Information and Communication Technology (CoICT) at the University of Dar es Salaam. He worked with the University of Dar es Salaam between 2010 to 2019 before joining the Jesuits. He is also one of the early founding members of HISP Tanzania, an organization established to empower governments and institutions through the effective use of ICT solutions. John worked with HISP Tanzania from its founding to 2019. Mukulu has also contributed to the development and implementation of DHIS 2, the world’s largest health information management system - through collaboration between the University of Oslo (UiO) and the University of Dar es Salaam.

His areas of expertise include Unix and Linux systems development and administration, Desktop and Mobile application development, Web application development and deployment, Server maintenance, Network systems administration, user interface, and experience design and development. From 2017 to 2018, Mukulu experienced what Jesuits refer to as the Cannonball moment. The discernment of his professional and spiritual encounters over the years saw him taking a path toward pursuing consecrated life in the Society of Jesus. Mukulu is currently in Jesuit formation toward priesthood in the Catholic Church. He’s currently missioned to philosophical studies at Arrupe Jesuit University in Harare, Zimbabwe.
